Welcome to the Department of Sociology and Anthrop
ology.
The Department has a long-standing tradition of excellence in teaching, scholarship, and service and we invite you to get to know us better through our website or meeting with us in person.
The department’s academic programs provide an environment that fosters creativity and growth among its students and faculty. The challenging and enriching educational experiences provided to our students, including collaborative learning and individualized attention, requirement of research projects, and the emphasis placed on out-of-classroom and co-curricular activities, clearly advance the goal of establishing a rich intellectual community which provides the premier undergraduate education in Illinois. A significant number of our faculty have been recognized in recent years with College, University, and disciplinary (national) awards for their teaching. Many faculty are also leaders in the scholarship of teaching and learning, and the development of active learning pedagogies. Numerous faculty are also productive and serious scholars with national and international reputations and routinely are awarded competitive external grants to support their work. The scholarly productivity of the faculty has never been more robust.
So I invite you to please get to know us better. I am sure you will agree that the Department of Sociology and Anthropology is a dynamic culture of energetic and creative scholars invested in the production and sharing of knowledge into the next generation.
