Elizabeth Scott, Assistant Professor of Anthropology
Dr. Elizabeth M. Scott conducts historical archaeology on sites of French colonial and post-colonial communities. Since 2004, she has been carrying out field work and directing ISU field schools at two sites in Ste. Genevieve, Missouri. Both sites include houses that were built in the late 1700s and that remain standing today. Excavations have taken place in the back yards behind the houses. In the summer of 2008, excavations will be carried out behind the Janis-Ziegler house, also known as the Green Tree Tavern. Previous field seasons have revealed domestic refuse scattered outside one end of the standing structure, as well as the archaeological remains of a French vernacular outbuilding, constructed of vertical logs or planks. Her overall research project examines daily life in this French and French-descendant community between 1780 and 1880.
